A lot of people think that ethanol is green. For those of us who watched Top Gear, we heard otherwise. And Popular Mechanics supports the issues raised. Overheating engines, dissolved plastic parts and ruined rubber. And that is before you store the gasoline.
My experience. On half a tank of pure gasoline I can get 180km+. With 10% ethanol, 150km. And the pure gasoline is often Regular, whereas the ethonal laced gasoline is always Premium.
So where is the green effect of ethanol?
Luckily in Canada we have Shell, Esso and Canadian Tire who provide ethanol-free premium gasoline, across the country.
My thanks to Fast Stop in Forrest, Illinois who enabled me to get to my Springfield motel tonight. A neat, 24hr station that can accept Canadian plastic!
