A warm and sunny Monday morning, as I headed out. Taking the back roads.Β
Good choice. Followed a red Ferrariβ. May have been a 458. Looked brand new. And the sound! π π π First time I have heard an engine howl. On the streets, that is.
The chap was driving quickly, but just below the speed limit. I could have overtaken. He kept moving over for me. But why overtake? Curvy back roads. Blue skies. 20degC. And an outstanding soundtrack in front of me. Wow.
Quickly enough I arrived in Hameln.Β
TomTom took me to what it thought was the town centre. Looked like a random back road to me. Was a random back road.Β
When I found the main square, took this photo…..
The building on the right has a clock telling the Pied Piper story. Tourist line up to film this π
Starting to rain as I found lunch……
Lunch finished, and so was the rain π
Then off across country to Bielefeld.
Long time ago, many of us went on a walk along the Bielefeld ridge. Our target was Sparrenburg castle. Well I made it……..
, though rather late. hahahahaha.Β
Only one group did that particular night. The rest of us fell by the wayside πΒ
Our band of brothers found you could get a beer in Germany at 9am π And this was in the car-park at our start-point at Hermannsdenkmal……
In fact we managed 3 different places for beer in that same car-park. How nice to be young π
Along the way we found more places for beers, including a swimming pool that rented swimming gear π Nothing helps a few beers on a sunny day, then a refreshing dips in a pool !Β
After a few adventures, wβe ended up at a random gasthaus just after dark. Stayed late, having supper and a few more beers. Cab’d it back home.
Oh happy days.Β
With a smile on my face I rode to my hotel.
TLC for the bike. Including checking the oil. Nice to know that whilst I had been doing lots of highway running, no oil burning off. Means I have been keeping it below 140kph for most of the time. hahahaha
Supper was a ginormous schnitzel, with a couple of Korns π
Thus ended Monday’s trip down memory lane π π π
Memory lane revisited!
Is Ravelin Camp (on the hill looking down on Hameln) still in existence or has it been bulldozed?
I would think probably the latter, as I doubt that the German army would want such a ramshackle place!
Didn’t have time to decamp to the camp π
But much building all over Germany. Accommodation mainly.
My guess, is that it has been turned into accommodation.
Shame.
As you say. “Happy Days” π
